An example of a successful social cause
Corporativo Linces, through its Fundación Amigos de la Juventud, AC (FUNDAJU) with the support of the UNESCO club PRESERVAMB AND CONAFOR (National Forestry Commission) , carried out its first reforestation in the town of San Simón, Texcoco, State of Mexico in 2019.
Its objective was to mitigate damage to our ecosystem and promote respect for the environment.
The reforestation was carried out in one of the fields previously rehabilitated by Fundaju through its program: Jugando Juntos —an initiative that is responsible for integrating low-income Mexican families through sport—, so there had already been a first rapprochement with the people of that locality.
To carry out this first reforestation, beneficiaries of the Jugando Juntos program , volunteer collaborators accompanied by their families, residents of Texcoco, environmental educators and directors of the foundation gathered.
After everyone's hard work, 270 thunder trees were planted in the hands of 175 volunteers , and another 30 trees that were adopted and installed in the homes of those who decided to take on this responsibility.
However, after this effort, many wondered: What will happen next? Who would take care of them? How will we ensure that we have achieved the goal of reforestation? Follow-up is the answer.
Monitoring of Fundaju reforestation
10 months have passed since said reforestation was carried out, and despite the health crisis we are experiencing, nothing has stopped the directors of Fundaju and members of the Texcoco community.
Thanks to their work together, the social cause has been adequately monitored through constant visits. Recently, 15 local residents applied hydrogel to the trees to help them absorb and retain large amounts of water and nutrients, this way they will continue to grow and provide oxygen for many years.
To do so, the volunteers took the recommended sanitary measures: use of face masks and healthy distance to later remove the soil and place the polymer.
During the activity they found that the trees have grown satisfactorily. Their size was 20 to 30cm at the time of planting… and currently they measure between 50 and 60cm!
This has been achieved thanks to the commitment of all members of the community, who go to the property weekly and weed, move soil and water the trees.
To date, 140 trees of the 270 planted have survived . Experts comment that this is common, since the life of the trees depends on multiple circumstances such as the one that occurred in the month of March and April: a drought devastated the area and there was a shortage of water. To mitigate the damage, water pipes were obtained but these were not enough and some trees suffered the consequences.
Caring for the environment is key for Fundaju
This social cause by Fundaju was a success: it made more people aware of nature and hundreds of children and adolescents were able to do physical activity surrounded by trees.
To continue with this type of initiatives, Fundaju had scheduled a second reforestation this year, but due to the COVID -19 pandemic the activity will be scheduled for 2021. Corporativo Linces and Fundaju are demonstrating not only the importance of caring for the environment and its preservation, also the priority it is to carry out this type of social causes and not neglect them so that the results are as expected.
